The Psalm Odyssey | Psalm 23

I love the book of Psalm. However, Psalm 23 is one of my favourite psalms. And so, it shouldn’t surprise you to hear that I’ve been meditating on it for years, and I’m still meditating on it. Trust me, the chapter is no shallow one, even though we’ve, to an extent, commonised it. There’s really a lot to get from it. So I’d be sharing what I’ve got from my meditation on the passage. This post covers the most recent one. I’d share others in an interval of one month. *sounds more like a series* 😁

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Jesus is not just a part of my life. He is my life. I’m complete I am Him (Col. 2:10). All I need is embedded in Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

How do we know this?

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

Really? For Jesus to be my shepherd, we share a level of intimacy. The highest, I believe. And so, we don’t necessarily live by rules, laws or practice. All I do is born out of love for Him.

Is it right for the sheep to lie down in green pastures? Yes. But in this case, I don’t just lie down in green pastures because I know that that’s the right thing to do.

When Jesus is the reason for all that you do, obedience becomes reflex.

Rather, I do so because “God is working in me to make me willing and able to obey him.”
Philippians 2:13 CEVUK.

When Jesus is the reason for all that you do, obedience becomes reflex.

He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

He’s the groom, and I’m the bride. He teaches me His culture and I regard it right. Right in all ways.

In fact, “…I reckon everything (my past, pursuit and earthly accomplishment) as complete loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable to me, the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Love.”
Philippians 3:8 GNT *paraphrased*

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

My past is hunting and people are mocking. I’ve still got my love before, after, under, over, and around me.

He wastes no time in chastising me lovingly when necessary. In this do I find my comfort.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

And the enemy. Yes, the enemy. They leave in shame, not because of my chastisement, but because of my Love adorns me right before the their eyes. And this He does as though there are just the two of us present.

Why wouldn’t I find comfort in His corrections. I’m loving it.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Psalms 23:1‭-‬6 NKJV

And you think I wouldn’t reaffirm my vows…

    1. Oh thanks Lily, and I’m really working on genuinely making Jesus the reason for all I do. It’s a daily fight for me. And I pray we all get to that point where obedience (to God) is not an option.
